Felicien Kabuga, a long-fugitive Rwandan businessman accused of financing and encouraging the 1994 Rwandan genocide, has died in custody, according to Deutsche Welle.

Kabuga was once among the world's most-wanted suspects for his alleged role in bankrolling and orchestrating the mass atrocities that killed an estimated 800,000 people. He remained at large for decades before his eventual capture.

The death marks the end of a high-profile case spanning nearly three decades. Kabuga faced charges related to his financial and organizational support for the genocide perpetrators.
