The European Union has formally greenlit sanctions against Israeli settlers in the occupied West Bank, according to Deutsche Welle and POLITICO Europe. The measures, long blocked by Hungary's former government, target what the EU describes as "extremist" Israeli settlers engaged in violence.
EU foreign affairs chief Kaja Kallas stated that "extremism and violence carry consequences." Israel has denounced the sanctions as "arbitrary and political." The action marks the bloc's most concrete punitive step against Israeli actors beyond the government.
