A senior Danish member of the centre-right European People's Party has urged Germany's CDU/CSU to consider working with the far-right Alternative for Germany (AfD), according to EurActiv.

Henrik Dahl told the outlet that the AfD's rise reflects a vacuum created by mainstream parties failing to address voter concerns. "The reason the AfD is such a large party is that a lot of the legacy parties have not given any answers," he stated.

Dahl's remarks signal growing pressure within European conservative circles to reconsider traditional isolation tactics toward far-right parties. The suggestion contradicts Germany's stated "firewall" against AfD cooperation. The debate exposes fractures within European conservatism over how to handle electoral challenges from nationalist movements.
