Emir Sarıgül surrendered to police in money laundering investigation
Seventeen suspects were sent to court in an operation coordinated by Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office.
Emir Sarıgül, son of politician Mustafa Sarıgül, surrendered himself to Istanbul Police Headquarters today following an arrest warrant issued against him on charges of 'laundering assets derived from crime'.
The investigation, conducted under the coordination of Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, was carried out by teams from Istanbul Police Headquarters' Financial Crimes Prevention Department. According to allegations, large sums of money with unclear origin were laundered through companies established both domestically and abroad; funds that were not used in accordance with investment contracts were allegedly given legal appearance.
The arrest procedures for 17 suspects detained in the operation were completed; after health screening, all were sent to court. It was noted that Sarıgül remained in the police building during the processing.
Mustafa Sarıgül was a candidate for Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality in the 2004 and 2009 elections; in 2014 he left the CHP and founded the Turkey Change Party. NTV reported the story.
