Iran's Supreme National Security Council secretary Mohsen Rezaei has raised the prospect of Tehran withdrawing from the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons if the United States resumes military aggression against the country.

Rezaei said on state television that "it is unclear whether we will remain in the NPT after any future war," but noted that while Iran is a party to it, it has 22 rights.

Rezaei linked any future nuclear discussions to a prior American acknowledgement of those rights. Washington must ensure Iran can exercise all NPT-guaranteed rights before talks on the nuclear programme can begin, he said, adding that if the United States wants to discuss the nuclear issue, Iran will demand its rights first and the U.S. "must first recognize our rights."
