Investigation approved into school principal and deputy for evacuating building during attack in Kahramanmaraş
Onikişubat District Governor's office approved investigation authorization for four officials who left the school during the armed attack on April 15.

Onikişubat District Governor's office, following preliminary investigation conducted under the letters of the Kahramanmaraş Chief Public Prosecutor and Law No. 4483, approved investigation authorization against Ayser Çalık Secondary School principal C.K., deputy principal F.B., teacher A.T., and guidance counselor E.İ. for the crimes of abandonment, failure to report a crime, and abuse of office. Habertürk reported.
In the district governor's decision, it was stated that camera footage revealed that principal C.K. and deputy F.B. came to the entrance of the corridor on the first floor where the attack took place after hearing gunshots, and immediately left the building upon witnessing the attack by the student involved in the crime. It was reported that the principal and deputy's statements also confirmed the camera footage.
In the decision, referencing Article 6/C of the Teaching Profession Law No. 7528 regarding the obligation to provide a safe environment, it was emphasized that principal C.K. and deputy F.B. were in a guarantor position toward students, and therefore their duty to intervene in the attack was a legal obligation. The decision also noted that the expectation was not to confront the armed attack, but rather to take measures to ensure student safety.
In the April 15 attack, eighth-grade student İsa Aras Mersinli, teacher Ayla Kara, and nine students lost their lives; 15 students were injured. Furkan Mehmet Cinkara, the lawyer for the deceased, stated that they would follow through to the end on all "administrative and legal steps" needed to prevent similar tragedies from occurring again.
