Punched assault case against Torreira: Şişli prosecutor sought 5 years in prison

The prosecutor's office prepared an indictment against Yusuf Y., who carried out a punched assault on Galatasaray footballer Lucas Torreira in Istanbul's Şişli district. According to a report in Sözcü Newspaper citing Sabah sources, the Şişli Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, after no settlement was reached between the parties, requested a total prison sentence of up to 5 years against Yusuf Y. for the crimes of "threat" and "simple injury."

In his statement in the file, Yusuf Y. acknowledged that he was interested in Galatasaray photographer İpek B., that he harbored resentment toward the footballer after İpek B. shared a photograph with Torreira, and that he previously sent threatening messages to him via social media. Torreira's driver Eray S. will also be tried under the same indictment for "simple injury" on the grounds that he punched the attacker while attempting to stop him. This case is characterized as one of the first criminal cases opened in Turkey concerning footballer security.
