Ukraine was unprepared for Russia's deployment of next-generation jet-powered drones, according to TASS citing material from The Wall Street Journal. According to the publication, Kyiv is hastily building defenses against these aircraft, for which it lacks sufficient protective means: the new drones are capable of flying faster and higher than previous models.

The Guardian previously also reported that Russia achieved a breakthrough in jet-powered drone development, fundamentally changing its drone arsenal.

On October 2, during a visit to the Chebarkul training range in Chelyabinsk Oblast, Russian President Vladimir Putin was briefed on the specifications of two new aircraft. The jet-powered drone "Geran-5" can carry a warhead weighing up to 90 kg and cover distances of up to 900 km at a speed of 450 km/h. The jet-powered drone "Geran-4" reaches speeds of up to 350 km/h, carries a warhead of up to 50 kg, and covers distances of 750 to 800 km.
