Tokayev invites Modi to visit Astana and promotes EAEU–India free trade zone
On the sidelines of the BRICS+ summit, Kazakhstan's president discussed energy, digitalization, and trade negotiations with India's premier.

Kazakhstan's President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev met with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the sidelines of the BRICS+ summit and invited him to make a state visit to Astana, Kazakhstan's presidential press office said.
During the meeting, Tokayev, speaking in his capacity as EAEU chairman, said Kazakhstan welcomes the ongoing negotiations on a free trade zone between the Eurasian Economic Union and India, and expressed readiness to help advance them. Kazakhstan holds the EAEU presidency in 2026.
The two sides also discussed cooperation in the areas of energy, digitalization, education, and tourism. Diplomatic relations between the two countries were established in 1992; Modi's last official visit to Kazakhstan took place in 2015.
Kazakhstan acquired BRICS partner country status in 2025.
