Cardiology Specialist Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mustafa Yolcu stated that increased red meat consumption during Eid al-Adha carries serious risk, particularly for people with cardiovascular disease. According to Cumhuriyet newspaper, Yolcu warned the public that uncontrolled meat consumption in the first days of the holiday can directly increase the risk of heart attack.
The expert stressed that cooking method also plays a decisive role in that risk, recommending grilling or boiling and simmering over frying. He noted that individuals who have previously suffered heart problems, or who have chronic conditions such as high blood pressure or diabetes, should restrict their meat consumption.
