Justice Minister Akın Gürlek announced on his social media account that the case file of Bahaddin Sefer's murder—whose mummified body was discovered on August 1, 2007, inside a refrigerator in the Bahçe neighborhood of Mersin's Akdeniz district—has been reopened.

Sefer's body had come to light after the tenant noticed a foul odor in the garden, leading to the breaking of the concrete floor. Through DNA testing, the deceased was identified as Sefer, who had filed a missing persons report in 2001. According to the autopsy report, Sefer died from lacerations caused by a sharp instrument and a fractured skull; however, the perpetrators had not been identified for 19 years.

Minister Gürlek noted that statements were taken from 32 people as part of the investigation conducted across different provinces. Based on the findings obtained, simultaneous operations were carried out in Mersin, Batman, İzmir, Aydın, Yozgat, and Sivas; six suspects identified as H.Ş., H.Y., A.İ., B.Ş., Ö.Ş., and A.E. were detained.

According to judicial sources, the murder is being assessed as having been committed with an honor motive. While suspects apprehended outside the province will be brought to Mersin, it was reported that the investigation is being pursued by the Mersin Chief Public Prosecutor's Office.
