15 detained in Muş-based operation as TL 2 billion in suspicious account activity uncovered

In an operation jointly conducted by the Gendarmerie General Command's Cyber Crimes Department, the Financial Crimes Investigation Board, and judicial authorities, simultaneous raids were carried out last night on 21 addresses in Muş, Batman, Bursa, and Yalova; 15 suspects were taken into custody.

Transaction activity totalling TL 2,025,740,480 was detected in the suspects' bank accounts. Of the 17 suspects identified as having facilitated the transfer of illegal betting proceeds from football and other sporting events, two remain at large and search operations are ongoing.

During the raids, 31 mobile phones, 5 computers, 17 SIM cards, 62 bank and credit cards, 5 identity cards belonging to other individuals, cheques valued at TL 1,750,000, and 2 unlicensed hunting rifles were seized.

The operation was conducted under the 'Safe Streets' initiative coordinated by the Provincial Gendarmerie Command. The announcement was made via the Muş Governorate's official social media account.

The most recent major operation against such illegal betting networks took place in Istanbul in 2024; in that case, similarly scaled transaction activity had also been detected in suspect accounts.
