QatarEnergy, Qatar's state-owned energy arm, has signed a memorandum of understanding with Egypt and U.S. oil giant ExxonMobil, according to LNG Industry, a magazine specialising in the liquefied natural gas sector.
The tripartite agreement brings together one of the world's leading government-backed liquefied natural gas producers, QatarEnergy, the American oil and energy giant ExxonMobil, and Egypt, which holds promising gas reserves stretching along the Mediterranean coastline and into its depths.
The move comes amid an accelerating wave of international interest in Egypt's energy portfolio, with Cairo emerging as a regional hub for exploration, production, and export projects. The signing of the MoU represents an initial formal step paving the way for a deeper and more detailed partnership among the three parties in subsequent phases.
The magazine has not yet disclosed the financial details of the agreement or the geographic areas targeted for exploration — details that may become clearer with forthcoming official announcements from the parties involved.
