Capital Markets Board: 43,000 paid in fund crisis, 413,000 investors waiting
Treasury Minister Şimşek announced that 17 funds have been liquidated; economist Karatepe says the AKP wants to close the issue due to political pressure.

According to data from the Capital Markets Board (SPK), the fund crisis has affected 455,758 individual investors. Treasury and Finance Minister Mehmet Şimşek announced that 17 funds have been liquidated and approximately 43,000 participants have had their money transferred to the relevant banks. More than 413,000 remaining investors are awaiting payment.
Economist Prof. Dr. Yalçın Karatepe, speaking to Cumhuriyet, framed the scale of the crisis with concrete figures: "The figure in question is close to 20 billion dollars. It has directly touched the pockets of nearly half a million people." Karatepe also attributed the decision to pay small investors first to a political calculation: "The AKP wants to get this off the agenda as quickly as possible to free itself from the political impact; the way to do this is to pay those with small amounts of money inside."
Karatepe, who noted that the money used in the liquidation would be distributed proportionally, and therefore large investors could face a long wait for their turn, said that exact rates have not yet been finalized.
In parliament, the opposition's proposal to establish an investigation commission was rejected last week by the ruling party's votes. How the SPK oversaw this crisis in the previous period continues to remain at the center of the inquiry.
