Uzbekistan's president disclosed negotiations on a second atomic station and confirmed plans for a third.
Uzbekistan's President Shavkat Mirziyoyev said on October 16 at a meeting with investors that the country is considering construction of not only a second but also a third nuclear power plant.
"We have plans for both a second and a third," Mirziyoyev stated, adding that uranium extraction in Uzbekistan is growing significantly and substantial investments have been made in it.
According to the president, nuclear energy is necessary to provide investors with guaranteed electricity supply and to reduce electricity costs. Construction of the first nuclear power plant has already begun. Earlier, in June, Mirziyoyev first publicly announced preparations for a second station project during a ceremony launching investment projects in Khorezm Region. The proposed locations for the second and third nuclear power plants were not specified in the statement.
