Saudi Arabia Activates Early Warning System in Al-Kharj and Eastern Region
Civil Defense Directorate sent alerts to mobile phones and announced the danger had passed shortly after, amid escalating Houthi attacks with missiles and unmanned aircraft.
Saudi Arabia's Civil Defense Directorate activated the early warning system in Al-Kharj governorate southeast of Riyadh and the Eastern Region, sending direct warning messages to residents' phones, urging them to remain calm and comply with instructions from official authorities.
The directorate announced in a statement on the X platform that the danger had subsided following activation of the system, without disclosing the nature of the threat or its source. What went unsaid in the statement is no less significant than what was said: no unmanned aircraft or missile was named specifically, and no casualties were reported.
This incident comes in the context of escalating attacks carried out by Iran-backed Houthis against the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia using ballistic missiles and unmanned aircraft, with the Houthis holding Riyadh responsible for military operations against them.
Saudi Arabia continues to lead the Arab Coalition, which has supported the internationally recognized Yemeni government since March 2015, in confrontation with the Houthis, who took control of Sanaa and several governorates in September 2014.
