Scientists confirm: Global sea level rise has doubled in recent years

According to scientific data reported by Cumhuriyet, global sea level rise has accelerated in recent years; researchers have confirmed that the rate of increase has reached double that of previous periods.

Scientists point out that the main drivers of this acceleration are the melting of ice sheets in Greenland and Antarctica and the thermal expansion of ocean water due to warming. If the rise continues at this pace, coastal cities and island nations are expected to face serious flood risk in the coming decades.

Turkey's Aegean and Mediterranean coasts, as well as coastal cities such as Istanbul, are among the regions identified as directly vulnerable to sea level changes. Cumhuriyet did not specify which scientific journal published the research or the time period on which the measurements were based.
