Milli Piyango expands from 6 games to 141 in 6 years; gambling tax cut before baby diaper tax hike

Since Milli Piyango was transferred to the Demirören Group in 2020, the number of games has grown from 6 to 141. YENİ Party Erzincan Deputy Mustafa Sarıgül revealed in data submitted to parliament that 56 new betting games were introduced in the last 8 months, and 38 billion 630 million lira in gambling tax was collected over the past 6 months.

The contradiction highlighted by Sarıgül is as follows: On July 7, 2023, the tax on baby diapers, baby formula, and hygiene products was increased, and on the same day the gambling tax was also raised. However, six months later, on January 1, 2024, only the gambling tax was reduced from 20 percent to 10 percent, horse racing tax from 14 percent to 7 percent, and sports competition tax from 10 percent to 5 percent.

Sarıgül estimated that the government's projected annual gambling tax revenue of 67 billion lira will exceed 80 billion by year-end. Sözcü Gazette reported the story.
