The conditions imposed by the Competition Authority on the A101 and Carrefoursa merger have been clarified: a total of 48 stores will be divested from regions where competition concerns were identified; 10 will belong to A101 and 38 to Carrefoursa. The combined workforce of both chains will be maintained at current levels for three years.
The two chains will continue operations with separate organizational structures following the merger. Carrefoursa's commitment to completely cease alcohol sales by year-end at its 1,237 stores across 77 provinces is also among the conditions. This reverses Carrefoursa's 2022 expansion of its alcoholic beverages section. Once the merger is completed, the resulting chain will rise to the position of a decisive third force in Turkey's discount and supermarket market, behind BİM and Migros.
