Spain receives hantavirus-hit cruise ship as WHO confirms six cases

Spanish authorities are preparing to receive the MV Hondius cruise ship, which has been at the centre of a hantavirus outbreak in European waters. According to Deutsche Welle, the World Health Organisation has confirmed six hantavirus cases linked to the vessel so far.

The ship, which has been operating in Mediterranean and Northern European routes, will dock in Spain for medical assessments and quarantine procedures. Hantavirus is typically transmitted through contact with infected rodent droppings and can cause severe respiratory illness. Health officials are conducting epidemiological investigations to trace the source of contamination aboard the vessel and identify additional cases among crew and passengers.
