Armenia and Azerbaijan have agreed on a draft document on the demarcation of the state border, according to Armenian news agency Armenpress. Reaching an agreement at this stage of negotiations represents significant progress in resolving territorial disputes between the countries.
The border demarcation process remains a critically important element of the peace agreement signed by the parties following the armed conflict in 2020. Agreement on the draft document opens the way for further coordination of specific demarcation lines on the ground.
Negotiations are being conducted with the participation of international mediators. Successful completion of demarcation could stabilize the situation in the South Caucasus region and create a foundation for normalization of relations between Yerevan and Baku.
