Iran Controls Strait of Hormuz — Parliament

Iran's deputy parliament speaker Haji Babai has stated that Iran controls the Strait of Hormuz and can block the passage of vessels through it. According to the politician, no ship will pass through the strategic maritime corridor without permission from the Islamic Republic.

The Strait of Hormuz is one of the most critical sea routes for global oil trade. Approximately one-third of the world's seaborne oil shipments pass through it. The statement from the Iranian official comes amid escalating tensions between Iran and Western countries. Babai characterized control over the strait as a source of strength that positions Iran as a regional powerbroker.
