MHP leader Devlet Bahçeli received Muhammad Seman Agha, chairman of the Iraqi Turkmen Front (ITC) and newly elected governor of Iraq's Kirkuk province. According to reporting by TRT Haber and Anadolu Agency, Bahçeli wished Agha success in his new position during what was described as a historically significant meeting.
Muhammad Seman Agha holds the distinction of being the first Turkmen figure ever elected to the governorship in Kirkuk's history. Kirkuk is home to a mixed Turkmen, Kurdish, and Arab population and ranks among Iraq's most strategically important provinces for its oil resources, having been the subject of governance disputes for years.
Bahçeli's reception of Agha is regarded as a tangible sign of Turkey's political support for the Turkmen presence in Kirkuk. The MHP has long kept the Iraqi Turkmen issue high on its political agenda.
