The European Union has sanctioned 16 Russian officials accused of orchestrating the abduction and deportation of thousands of Ukrainian children to Russia, according to The Guardian.

The move targets individuals involved in what Ukrainian authorities describe as forced relocation operations during the ongoing war. EU member states have increasingly focused on documenting alleged war crimes and crimes against humanity, with child deportations emerging as a central concern in international legal proceedings.

The sanctions add to existing restrictions on Russian officials and come as the International Criminal Court and other bodies investigate allegations of systematic child transfers from occupied Ukrainian territories.
