Posters for an anti-mining environmental rally planned to be held in Görele district of Giresun were collected by Doğankent Municipality teams. According to Cumhuriyet Gazetesi's report, the municipality cited 'unauthorized posting' and 'environmental pollution' as grounds for the removal.
The event organizers, however, argued that the action restricted freedom of expression and the right to assembly, declaring the municipality's intervention unlawful. The removal of the posters sparked public debate ahead of the rally.
Görele and its surrounding area is known as a region where local residents have long protested against mining exploration and extraction activities in the area. Environmental organizations and opposition representatives characterized the municipality's stance as effectively obstructing the right to participate. It remains unclear whether any legal action has been initiated regarding the legal aspects of the case.
