A 12-year-old boy identified as F.S. lost his balance at Botan Bridge in Siirt yesterday evening and fell into the Botan River. His father Ö.S., who noticed the situation, jumped into the water to rescue his son; however, the father was also swept away by the strong current.
According to Anadolu Agency, rescue teams from 112 Emergency Health, AFAD, UMKE, gendarmerie, and Siirt Municipality Fire Department divers were dispatched to the area following reports. F.S., who was pulled from the water by the teams, was pronounced dead. The child's body was taken to the morgue of Siirt Education and Research Hospital following prosecutors' examination.
Search operations for the father Ö.S., who went missing in the water, were halted due to nightfall. Teams were reported to resume the search early in the morning.
