The European Commission has fined Temu, a China-based online shopping platform, €200 million for violating the Digital Services Act (DSA). According to a report carried by Cumhuriyet, the Commission determined that Temu failed to meet its obligations under the DSA.
The DSA requires major digital platforms operating in the EU market to comply with strict rules on user safety, combating disinformation, and tackling illegal content. Temu had already come under close scrutiny from EU regulators as one of the platforms with a rapidly growing user base in Europe in recent years.
The fine stands out as one of the highest sanctions the EU has applied to major digital platforms under the DSA framework. Whether Temu will appeal the decision remains unclear.
