The Dutch Health Council has urged the ministry of health, welfare and sport to increase clarity around long Covid, according to DutchNews.
The independent advisory body, which provides the Dutch government with scientific guidance on public health matters, highlighted the need for better-defined policies and clearer public guidance on the post-viral condition. Long Covid continues to affect thousands of Dutch citizens, with symptoms that can persist for months or even years following an initial coronavirus infection.
The council's call reflects growing concern among health professionals and patients alike that existing frameworks do not adequately address the complexity of the condition. Long Covid can impair cognitive function, cause persistent fatigue, and significantly reduce a patient's capacity to work and maintain quality of life.
By calling on the ministry to act, the Health Council is pressing the government to take a more structured and coordinated approach to diagnosing, treating, and supporting those living with long Covid across the Netherlands.
