Turkish court invalidated the mark: The company of world-renowned singer Rihanna won its lawsuit against unauthorized use of her name in Turkey. The trademark registration under the term 'RIANNA' was completely cancelled by court order.

Rihanna's lawyers argued that the artist's global recognition and the single-letter difference created consumer confusion. The defendant claimed the word has Arabic origins and means 'good scent,' and requested dismissal. The court concluded that an average consumer could confuse the two names and ruled the trademark invalid.

Attempts to register terms similar to foreign celebrities' names in Turkey's Trademark Registry have become increasingly common, particularly since the 2010s. This ruling is being regarded as one of the first clear precedents in intellectual and industrial property courts for establishing that a single-letter difference falls outside the scope of protection.
