Kazakhstan has completed the establishment of diplomatic relations with all UN member states: on October 31, Kazakhstan's permanent representative to the UN Kairat Umarov and Nauru's permanent representative Lara Erab Daniel signed a joint communiqué, making the Pacific island archipelago Astana's 195th partner. This was reported by the press service of Kazakhstan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The document establishes the foundations of bilateral cooperation based on the principles of the UN Charter: mutual respect for state sovereignty and territorial integrity, equality of states, and non-interference in each other's internal affairs. The parties discussed prospects for political dialogue and the expansion of trade, economic, and humanitarian ties, highlighting trade, sustainable development, digitalization, and human capital development.

Both states emphasized the importance of regular dialogue on international issues and the development of Kazakhstan's partnership with countries in the Pacific region.

Kazakhstan joined the UN on March 2, 1992, by UN General Assembly Resolution 46/224. In 2017–2018, the country served as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council.
