The Central Bank of Uzbekistan and Hong Kong's Financial Services and Treasury Bureau (FSTB) signed a memorandum of understanding in Hong Kong on September 9, 2026. The document is aimed at developing cooperation in gold and other precious metals markets, the Central Bank of Uzbekistan reported.
The signing took place on the sidelines of Belt and Road Summit 2026. The Uzbek side was represented by First Deputy Chairman of the Central Bank Abroar Mirzo Olimov, and the Hong Kong side by Secretary for Financial Services and the Treasury Christopher Hui.
The memorandum provides for institutional cooperation, exchange of experience and expertise, and the study of opportunities for modern financial infrastructure in precious metals markets. The parties agreed to exchange experience in developing gold markets and related financial infrastructure, to study clearing and settlement mechanisms, and to expand practical cooperation.
