U.S. President Donald Trump called on Libya, via a post on his social media account, to immediately stop the flow of irregular migrants across its territory toward Europe, according to Anadolu Agency.

Trump wrote: "Libya cannot remain a passage for illegal migration, and this situation must end immediately." He added in the same post that "the Libyan people are a people full of pride, resilience and generosity and deserve peace and prosperity," invoking what he described as the "historic shared achievement" embodied in the defeat of ISIS on Libyan territory.

Trump clarified that the United States and Libya are united by a "strong and lasting partnership in countering terrorism," anchoring his call on this foundation. The statement came within a broader declaration in which Trump also called on European countries, led by France, to close their borders to irregular migrants, linking the matter to incidents that occurred in France.

Trump did not specify the mechanisms for implementing this request, nor did he allude to any measures or sanctions anticipated in the event of non-compliance.
