41 women sold eggs 811 times: Justice Minister Gürlek announces operations in 14 provinces
In an investigation conducted by the Istanbul Anadolu Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, legal proceedings were initiated against 53 suspects, and 36 were detained.
Simultaneous operations in 14 provinces: Justice Minister Akın Gürlek announced details of an investigation into illegal reproductive cell trafficking centered in Istanbul. The investigation, launched by the Istanbul Anadolu Chief Public Prosecutor's Office Terrorism and Organized Crime Investigation Bureau on the basis of a complaint filed through CİMER, uncovered connections extending beyond Turkey to Northern Cyprus, Albania, and Georgia.
Following an examination of HTS and MASAK records and international travel data, it was determined that 41 Turkish women sold eggs 811 times abroad in exchange for financial compensation. The Chief Public Prosecutor's Office established that the network directing these women abroad consisted of 1 organization leader, 5 managers, 2 gynecologists and obstetricians, and 4 travel organizers.
During the operation, legal proceedings were initiated against 53 suspects and 36 people were detained. It was determined that one of the suspects was already in prison before the operation, and some were located abroad.
The scale of the investigation into this type of organized structure—811 registered transactions for a single organ, coordination across four countries—makes it the most comprehensive case targeting reproductive cell trafficking disclosed to date in Turkey.
