Family Ministry Files Criminal Complaint Over Social Media Posts About 'Setting Example for Young Trans Children'

The Family and Social Services Ministry filed a criminal complaint with the Republic's Chief Prosecutor over posts circulating on social media platforms with the headline 'We will set an example for young trans children.' According to information conveyed by Anadolu Agency, the application was filed today.

The Ministry requested that the relevant posts be investigated and that those responsible be brought to justice through legal proceedings. Which platforms the posts were distributed on and how many accounts fell within the scope have not yet been shared with the public by the Ministry; the Republic's Chief Prosecutor has also made no statement regarding the stage the process is at.

Legal restrictions targeting LGBTQI+ content in Turkey have expanded significantly in recent years. Various ministries have previously applied to Republic's Chief Prosecutors in legal initiatives targeting social media in this area. The Family and Social Services Ministry has also taken similar steps previously in cases concerning digital content directed at children.
