AKOM: Rainfall in Istanbul to intensify after 6:00 PM, warning of up to 100 kg per square meter for Anatolian Side
MGM issues orange alert; northern districts including Arnavutköy, Sarıyer and Beykoz, as well as the entire Anatolian Side at risk.
The General Directorate of Meteorology (MGM) issued an orange alert for Istanbul today; the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality's Disaster Coordination Center (AKOM) announced that rainfall will intensify starting at 6:00 PM this evening, with effects diminishing after nighttime hours.
According to AKOM data, the Anatolian Side is expected to receive 50-100 kilograms of rainfall per square meter. In other areas, this figure will remain in the 20-50 kilogram range. A special warning was issued for Arnavutköy, Eyüpsultan, Sarıyer, Şişli, Beşiktaş, Fatih and areas around the Strait on the European Side.
A cold and wet air mass coming from the Balkans is striking the city once more while wounds from the October 14 flood remain unhealed. In that flood, water in the Ayazağa neighborhood of Sarıyer rose to 2.5 meters, and streams in northern districts overflowed. AKOM warned that intense rainfall accompanied by storms will continue until Sunday morning.
According to information reported by NTV, rainfall has been continuing intermittently across the city since morning hours; scattered heavy showers are being observed particularly in Arnavutköy, Eyüp, Sarıyer, Beykoz and Şile.
