AKP Antalya Provincial Chair Çetin has been using school land as a warehouse since 2016
The 5,100 m² 'primary school plot' in Muratpaşa, public land, was leased to Çetin's company for 32,000 lira per month.
AKP Antalya Provincial Chair Ali Çetin is using a 5,100-square-meter plot of land belonging to the Regional Directorate of Foundations in Kızıltoprak Neighborhood, Muratpaşa district, which is designated as a 'primary school area' in the development plan, as a warehouse under the name of his own company Arel Beton Restorasyon Yapı Malzemeleri İnşaat İzolasyon Boya Sanayi ve Ticaret Ltd. Şti. The land has been left sitting amid marble and waste since 2016. The issue was reported by Cumhuriyet Newspaper.
Çetin was found to have leased the plot in question through a tender auction in 2016. The monthly rent remained at 1,520 lira between 2016 and 2019; in 2019 it was set at 1,881, in 2020 at 2,198, in 2022 at 2,574, in 2023 at 6,000, in 2024 at 13,500, in 2025 at 21,399, and in 2026 at 32,000 lira. It was learned that the average monthly rent for a 100-square-meter apartment in the region starts at 30,000 lira; it is assessed that the rent paid for the 5,100-square-meter public land has remained well below market value.
It has been alleged that there are multiple unlicensed structures on the land. The use of land designated for education for commercial purposes in an area with high population density and high school needs has sparked public interest debate. It was noted that the Ministry of National Education and Muratpaşa Municipality have not intervened in the matter for years, despite the land being registered as a school area.
