Eskil Chief Public Prosecutor's Office Issues Second Non-Prosecution Decision in Zekiye Derin's Death

The Eskil Chief Public Prosecutor's Office has decided for the second time that there is no grounds for prosecution in the investigation into the death of Zekiye Derin, who was found hanged in the storage section of a building on April 18 in Kökez village, which is part of the Eskil district of Aksaray. The decision was based on the autopsy report determining the cause of death as respiratory and circulatory failure resulting from asphyxia due to hanging, and the lack of concrete evidence that spouse Mehmet Derin incited suicide.

Following the Aksaray 1st Peace Criminal Court's earlier reversal of the first non-prosecution decision and its request for Mehmet Derin to be questioned as a suspect and for an HTS examination to be conducted, technical analysis revealed noteworthy findings. According to the expert report, a GSM line registered in the name of Zekiye Derin but assessed to be actually used by Mehmet Derin received signals from base stations in the Kökez area between 09:56–11:05. It was determined that the line used by Zekiye received service from the same area during the same time period; the report emphasized that this technically showed the possibility that the two lines were in the same coverage area during those hours. Call records also reflected that the two lines communicated twice with each other on the morning of the incident. In his statement, Mehmet Derin said he entered the Eskil district center around 10:00–10:15.

The autopsy of Zekiye also revealed signs of fresh blunt force injuries on her body. Despite these findings, the prosecutor's decision stated that no criminal element requiring the filing of a public case was found.
