Worker Dies After Falling Into Elevator Shaft at 12-Story Building Site in Karaman

A worker named Mesut Yıldız (39) died after losing his balance and falling into an elevator shaft while working on the top floor of a 12-story apartment building under construction on 1038 Street in Hamidiye District of Karaman.

Following a report from other workers, health, fire, police, and AFAD teams were dispatched to the scene. The health team that arrived at the scene confirmed that Yıldız had died on site. The chief prosecutor conducted an investigation at the scene; Yıldız's body was transported to the morgue at Karaman Education and Research Hospital for autopsy.

Workplace fatalities continue to be a chronic problem in Turkey: according to data from the Ministry of Labor and Social Security, the construction sector ranks among the top industries in workplace accident deaths each year. The investigation into the incident is ongoing.
