Lüleburgaz Mayor Murat Gerenli announced his resignation from CHP membership through a statement posted on his social media account. Gerenli justified his decision with these words: 'I am leaving because these developments, which began with the absolute nullification process and continued with appointments made to the Kırklareli Provincial Organization, are incompatible with my principles.'
Despite ending his party membership, Gerenli emphasized that he would continue in his role as mayor and remain faithful to his commitments to the people of Lüleburgaz: 'I will continue to serve with a transparent and accountable approach.'
It was previously known that Gerenli's relationship with CHP leadership had begun to deteriorate during the 'absolute nullification' process. The recent appointments to the Kırklareli Provincial Organization cemented this rift. The resignation marks the first high-level party departure among the municipalities won by CHP across Kırklareli in the March 31, 2024 local elections.
