Merkezefendi Municipal Mayor Şeniz Doğan arrested in bribery investigation

Şeniz Doğan, mayor of Merkezefendi Municipality in Denizli, was arrested on the morning of October 30 along with his spouse, lawyer Mehmet Ali Doğan, and four others. After the suspects were referred to Denizli courthouse, they were brought before the court and arrest warrants were issued.

Within the scope of an investigation into allegations of bribery, public procurement rigging, and embezzlement being conducted by Denizli Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, the Denizli Police Department's Anti-Smuggling and Organized Crime Unit carried out an operation on October 27. In the operation, a total of 27 people were detained, including Şeniz Doğan and his spouse, as well as deputy municipal mayors, certain municipal employees, and construction company officials. After the suspects underwent processing at police headquarters, they were referred to the courthouse; the court issued arrest warrants for 6 people, including the Doğan couple, while the other suspects were released.

Merkezefendi Municipal Mayor Şeniz Doğan had resigned from the CHP and joined the New Party shortly before the operation.
