514 Million TL of Mopaş Stuck in Liquidating Hedef Portföy Fund
The chain retailer had invested 20.4 percent of its total assets in the lowest-risk category fund; it announced that commercial operations continue.
Mopaş Marketçilik Gıda Sanayi ve Ticaret A.Ş. disclosed to the Public Disclosure Platform (KAP) that approximately 514 million TL of its total 2.52 billion TL in financial assets is held in the Hedef Portföy Money Market Participation Fund (HPH), which has entered liquidation.
The company stated that this amount represents 20.4 percent of its total assets. It was noted that the fund carried an announced risk rating of 1/7, placing it in the safest category of investment instruments. The fund's entry into liquidation has nonetheless become a concrete illustration that even companies relying on low-risk money market instruments for cash management can incur losses.
In its KAP disclosure, Mopaş stated that commercial operations have experienced no disruption and that it is closely monitoring the liquidation process. The crisis has begun to raise broader questions about corporate cash management practices across the retail sector.
The Hedef Portföy situation is linked to a fund that previously froze assets belonging to 43,000 individual participants; the government had initially launched interim payments to those individual investors. The scale of corporate losses is now coming into sharper focus.
