As preparations for Eid al-Adha begin at the animal market in Nazilli, a district of Aydın, both producers and citizens expressed that they are facing serious challenges. According to a report by Cumhuriyet Gazette, sellers at the market stated that they are struggling to make a profit due to rising feed and maintenance costs, and sometimes even incur losses. Producers emphasized that the cost increases in inputs are directly reflected in the prices of sacrificial animals and that this situation is negatively affecting demand.
Citizens, meanwhile, said that the rise in prices has significantly reduced their purchasing power. Retirees in particular complained that their salaries are insufficient to purchase sacrificial animals, expressing frustration over the inadequacy of the 4,000 lira holiday bonus they received from the government.
As Eid al-Adha approaches, price movements in animal markets across Turkey are being closely monitored. The situation in Nazilli concretely demonstrates the impact of inflation throughout the country on the agricultural and livestock sector, while also drawing attention to how it is increasingly making holiday preparations difficult for low-income citizens.
