Poland is seeking to join the US nuclear deterrence programme and is conducting separate negotiations with France on nuclear cooperation, Defence Minister Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz said Friday.

Kosiniak-Kamysz said participation in US nuclear sharing could be tied to the establishment of a permanent American base on Polish territory, though he gave no timeframe, citing the need for consultations with European allies.

He added that France is offering its European partners a larger share in its nuclear deterrence system, and that Warsaw's talks with Paris run in parallel to those with Washington. He said that "participation in the American nuclear cooperation program" does not preclude establishing relations with France, adding that the two negotiation tracks are compatible.

The minister had proposed a permanent US base to Pentagon chief Pete Hegseth on 3 June. An American delegation visited Poland in early September to inspect potential locations, and on 17 September US President Donald Trump announced what he called significant progress in those negotiations.
