Court of Accounts: 1,600 people in Beykoz Municipality received undeserved social assistance
2025 report found that support cards were issued to owners of luxury vehicles and 25 hazelnut orchards; the Municipality's Deputy Mayor is from the AKP.

According to the Court of Accounts' 2025 audit report on Beykoz Municipality, approximately 1,600 people using social support cards did not meet the criteria of neediness. The report indicates that the municipality's social assistance system was seriously abused.
Based on audit findings, it was determined that owners of luxury vehicles and individuals with multiple properties were included in the municipality's aid network. The most striking finding among these was that a person who owned 25 hazelnut orchards in addition to a luxury vehicle also benefited from the social support card.
The Court of Accounts report revealed significant irregularities not only in the distribution of social assistance but also in allowance payments. Özlem Vural Gürzel, the Deputy Mayor heading Beykoz Municipality, resigned from the CHP and joined the AKP; President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan personally pinned her badge. The report's coverage in the public domain has reignited discussions about resource management in the municipality.
