US trade chief warns EIB's €3bn Airbus loan puts tariff truce at risk
USTR Jamieson Greer says his office received no details on the record financing and pressed the EU to resolve the matter quickly.

US Trade Representative Jamieson Greer warned on Monday that a €3 billion European Investment Bank loan to Airbus, announced in June, could jeopardise the tariff truce between Washington and Brussels.
Greer said his office had received no details about the financing and pressed for the situation to be resolved as soon as possible. He described the loan as injecting substantial uncertainty into transatlantic trade in the aerospace sector, and said he had sincerely hoped that trade-distorting European subsidies to Airbus were a thing of the past.
The EIB described the financing as unprecedented in the bank's history when it was announced in June. EIB Vice President Ambroise Fayolle said the loan was intended to give Airbus both the capacity and flexibility to invest in long-term research, development and innovation across commercial aviation and the security and defence sectors.
The United States and the EU settled a 17-year dispute over alleged unfair support for Boeing and Airbus in 2021 under former President Joe Biden. Neither side has reimposed tariffs since that agreement.
