Kyrgyzstan's Cabinet of Ministers extended the ban on exporting cattle, horses, sheep, and goats for another six months through Resolution No. 607 dated September 10. The restriction is aimed at ensuring food security and containing food prices. The document enters into force on the day of its official publication, with the ban itself taking effect three days after that.
A number of exemptions are provided. The ban does not apply to transit through Kyrgyzstan's territory, sporting horses travelling to competitions, horses transferred as gifts to foreign states and international organizations, the export of horses by air, or the export of donkeys. Separate exemptions are established for breeding sheep and for livestock not raised in Kyrgyzstan that is exported by state operator JSC Kyrgyz Agroholding.
The Customs Service, Border Service, and Ministry of Agriculture are tasked with preventing the illegal export of animals. The Ministry of Economy is required to notify the WTO and the Eurasian Economic Commission of the restriction, while the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is to inform the CIS Executive Committee.
