Uzbekistan's President Shavkat Mirziyoyev signed a law to strengthen the system protecting children from all forms of violence. The announcement was confirmed by Saida Mirziyoyeva, head of the Presidential Administration.

Amendments were introduced to five codes and six laws. Sexual violence against children under 14 carries a prison sentence of up to 25 years or life imprisonment. For cases in this category, statutes of limitations for prosecution and sentence enforcement do not apply.

A person who commits an intentional crime resulting in a child's death cannot receive a suspended sentence and is not eligible for parole. Accountability extends to all those responsible — from educational institution staff to relatives.

"For any crime that results in a child's death, there will be no leniency whatsoever," Saida Mirziyoyeva wrote.
