Uzbekistan is considering the possibility of constructing second and third nuclear power plants. President Shavkat Mirziyoyev announced this on October 16 during an open dialogue with investors in the fuel and energy sector.

Mirziyoyev reported that construction of the country's first nuclear power plant has already begun. Simultaneously, authorities are studying the prospects for building two additional nuclear stations. According to the president, Uzbekistan is placing particular emphasis on nuclear energy and increasing uranium extraction: in recent years, substantial investments have been directed into the sector, experience has been accumulated, and conditions have been created for implementing nuclear projects.

Negotiations with new potential partners and investors regarding construction of the second nuclear power plant are scheduled for October 17. The companies that will participate in them, as well as possible sites for new stations, were not named at the dialogue.
