Donald Trump stated that he is capable of tightening sanctions against Russia at any moment at his own discretion. "I can sign this later — or at any time that I want," he wrote on Truth Social, referring to legislation on strengthening restrictive measures.

Earlier, Trump took 60 days to assess the economic consequences of current sanctions and tariffs related to Russia for other countries.

On September 18, he signed a law tightening sanctions against high-ranking Russian political and military officials, as well as state companies. The document provides for a 500 percent increase in import tariffs on Russian supplies and 100 percent on goods from countries that are major buyers of Russian energy.

At the same time, the U.S. administration retains the right not to implement these measures if it concludes that their application contradicts the country's national interests.
