Erbakan: 'We will not support if Mansur Yavaş is CHP's candidate'

Yeniden Refah Party General Chairman Fatih Erbakan made a striking statement regarding the possibility of Ankara Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Mansur Yavaş being nominated as a candidate in the upcoming presidential election. According to Cumhuriyet Gazette reporting, Erbakan made clear in unambiguous terms that his party would not provide support if Yavaş were designated as a candidate by the CHP. Erbakan used the words, "If Yavaş is CHP's candidate, we will not support him in any way."

Erbakan's statement once again brought into focus that the opposition bloc's search for unity on the presidential candidate issue has not yet gained clarity. In previous election cycles, Yeniden Refah Party has pursued a line outside the main opposition bloc; however, based on the vote share it has obtained, it is regarded as a factor in political balance.

Although Mansur Yavaş's presidential candidacy does not yet have an official character, Erbakan's conditional stance emerges as an important signal that lays bare the boundaries and vulnerabilities of a possible opposition alliance.
